My First Blog (Really not really)

This is not actually my first blog entry. I was a blogger before it was cool actually, when I kept my Captain's Log way back in 1997. Then I used blogger more recently to keep a private blog, but that didn't work too well because I could only write on it when I was at work or at home and borrowing Chris's computer. Maybe it would work better now that I have a laptop. But then the old fashioned pen and ink way works well too.

So yeah, I'm inspired by my sister to write another blog. So we'll each at least have one reader. :)

Just saw Lilo and Stitch last night - as in I had a stitch in my side from laughing so hard. My new favorite quote is, "Oh good. My dog found the chainsaw."

Today I helped Stephanie make hers and Bruno's wedding invitations. They're really cute too - I would have never guessed that a space themed wedding would work as well as it is seeming to. Even their webpage is cute - although I am not actually an impartial judge on this one.

My sister tells me that my grandmother isn't doing so well. This makes me worried about her - she can't remember how to read. (I can't even imagine the horror of that.) But it also makes me think about family and obligations to family. All my family lives back east and it takes days and hundreds of dollars to travel back and forth. I try to go once a year and see all my family, but you can't see everyone. Anyway, my grandmother is sick in the hospital and my sister is going to visit. Should I go visit? How do you put a price on that? Is it really true that visiting my grandmother is not worth hundreds of dollars and a couple of days? It seems harsh to price that out. This is not the last time I'll have to think about this. Chris says that I shouldn't worry too much because who knows if she'll even remember that I came to visit a couple of hours after I do.

Again, inspired by Steph, some memories of Meme: Mostly revolve around her house in Wake. Riding the tractor and hanging out in the backyard with the Buffer. Also, being told she didn't need a dishwasher because she had two. And sitting in her bedroom in the summer because it was the only air conditioned room in the house. The smell of unshelled walnuts and of the powder jar in the bathroom. And I don't remember ever fighting with my sister there. That's something. :)
