We were over at Matt & Anne's house last night and Sinjin and Geneva were playing together and it's so funny to watch them. They don't really play together exactly, more like bump into each other while they're playing separately. Anne managed to capture a funny moment when Sinjin was using Geneva to climb up. Eventually he grabbed her around the waist and managed to pull her down on top of himself, which we thought was hilarious, but he wasn't quite as amused... Probably in part because he fell on that toy suitcase thing you see in the background of this photo.
So I just recently dropped one pumping session from my day because I just couldn't deal with thrice daily anymore, but it made me a little sad. My first step towards weaning! I've really enjoyed breastfeeding because it's such a good low key time to cuddle with the baby and I'll definitely miss it when it's gone. That, in combination with lots of friends recently announcing pregnancies has made me (and chris also, actually) start thinking about more kids. I'm not ready to be pregnant again but I've definitely been thinking. How did other people out there decide on the when and how many of 2nd+ children?
We went to a party this evening at Tesla's new Palo Alto location. They had face painters and one of them was our next door neighbor who also painted my belly for me 9ish months ago. Like it?
So Chris and Geneva and I spent last weekend hanging out with family and friends in Boulder. We ate lots of yummy food and hung out on Pearl Street and went to the butterfly garden and went for walks. All in all a good vacation! I took so many adorable photos I can't hardly pick a few to post here... so go see the album y'all! And not from the trip to Boulder - we were over at Matt and Anne's and they offered to take a family photo. We couldn't get Geneva to smile though so they suggested Chris and I look serious. I'm not very good at serious though.
I'm still amused by my sunflowers. They're so cheerful, don't you think?? And it still is making me laugh how they don't all point the same way. I was checking out the way the sun goes this morning and realized that they're getting morning sun bouncing off our neighbor's house, followed by direct sun, followed by both direct and reflected (off our house) sun. They really can't figure it out. I have a habit of not pulling out plants I don't recognize - I don't automatically assume it's a weed. In the case below, it really paid off - look at the lovely flowers! It took me awhile to figure out but it appears this is a Gladiolus. We didn't do much of anything yesterday except eat yummy fruit from the farmers' market. So today I wanted to get our sluggish rears out of the house and so we went hiking in Picchetti Open Space Preserve. We didn't see any of the peacocks who live on the grounds, but we did see a lot of poison oak and some good views. I'm consistently amazed by my daughter's ability to sleep in the backpack. It looks so uncomfortable, but she wakes up in a good mood anyway! Unrelated to anything, last week was kind of hard for me. I got food poisoning (or the flu?) on Tuesday and had a fever on Wednesday. That was annoying but at least I was well rested. I realized this week though that I have a difficult and annoying scheduling problem. On Monday and Tuesday we took the baby to daycare by bike cart. This is something I've been wanting to do for awhile, but now I'm not so sure how regular it will be. The problem is that because she's so heavy and I'm a slow biker, the ride takes awhile (maybe a half hour to get her to daycare and myself to work?). Then, since it seems like a bit much for me to do both ways in one day, Chris picks her up after work. I won't get into the details, but in essence this results in me seeing the baby awake about 40 minutes less each day (because we spend about 20 extra minutes each way on the commute) which in turns makes me much sadder than I would have expected. When we go by car I see her from about 6:30-7:30 every morning while I get ready for work, and about 5:30-7:30 in the evening after work. Seeing her 40 minutes less each day really cuts down how much I see her, and in particular cuts into the fun parts of the day where I'm not frantically trying to figure out where to stash her so I can finish getting dressed (or whatever). Probably this will get easier as she needs less sleep at night. But that won't be for awhile I would think. But I need the exercise too and biking saves the environment, thereby easing my eco-guilt! See how this dilemma works? Just something I've been thinking about. I may do 2-3 days a week of bike cart and then more exercise on weekends as a kind of compromise. For enduring my griping, here's more cute baby photo/video.
From lunch today: And furthermore, another video of Geneva crawling, this time only three days after the previous video. It's amazing how fast she learns!!!
Oh, and one last thing which is I can't even tell you how cute it is that now when I come to get her when she's woken up, she's often standing at the crib rail waiting for me with a big happy look on her face. I LOVE it!!!!
I planted sunflowers on the western edge of our house and they just started blooming! They're quite lovely and also the type that makes the seeds you can eat, so I'm looking forward to trying those. It's funny - you know sunflowers are sun tracking, but a few of ours seem to be confused and actually tracking the reflection of the sun in the insulating aluminum in our bedroom window. Also, the baby is cruising around the edges of things while standing (a little bit) and also doing some hands an knees crawling. This isn't the most coordinated example I've seen, but it's cute anyway.
Chris and I did a little exploring today and realize there's this totally awesome park about a half mile from our house! Here's Las Palmas. It has a huge playground on an island! And a little water park! I'm looking forward to Geneva being old enough to really enjoy it. For now she was content to stick her feet in. And here's a cute photo I just came across from our last heat wave when we were bringing Geneva in from the baby pool.
