Ruining their dinners

My life skill

Regarding my previous post on life skills, I believe I have found mine: making Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. My family may share this life skill, but I have repeatedly served my GC sandwiches to people and been told that it's the best they've ever eaten. I think that'll do as a life skill. Other than that, only my sister chimed in with a skill... none of the rest of you out there can think of one???

As you saw from the photos of the weekend we took Geneva and got her a haircut. It's cute except it makes her look older, which makes me a little wistful. Whenever anyone asks her about it she always says happily "got two lollipops!" This was the bribe with which we tried to get her to not cry. It didn't work.

Other things that are going on around here... I've planted a few things in the garden but didn't start any tomato seeds this year because I felt lazy and am pretty sure I can get some tomatoes I want at one of the stores or public gardens in the area. Right now I have garlic, radishes, a few sugar snap peas, and marjoram out the wazoo. I've been running three times a week as training for Bay to Breakers in May. I ran my farthest distance ever, 3.5 miles, last Saturday but didn't eat before (at the recommendation of many runner friends) and was very near to passing out. I think I must need to eat before that kind of exercise. I'll just have to figure out how much and when. I've been reading a lot (yay for the Kindle!) and knitting a gift for a friend who is getting married. I also had a crafting spasm and bought an embroidery pattern. I pretty much quit girl scouts because they wanted me to learn embroidery, so it's kind of weird that I would want to do it now. Mostly that pattern was just so cute I want it hanging on my wall and I think the easiest way to get that is to do it myself. Jen tells me it's ok though because all the hipsters quit knitting and picked up embroidery, so maybe I'll just pretend it's ironic crafting.

The littlest lift rider

Ok, so you can't tell at all from this photo but g loved skiing. Every time chris and I would slow down she'd yell at us "go fast!" and every time we got off the lift she said "again! Again!"

Life skill

One day after dinner on the boat in Thailand, Aimee announced "My life skill is fitting Tupperware to leftovers." She then skillfully and repeatedly demonstrated that she was able to identify the smallest container in the kitchen which would nevertheless contain all the food in question. We then, after a little explanation, all tried to jump in with our life skills:

Me: I can write straight up a page.
Aimee: That's a good candidate but you might want to keep thinking...
Jen: I can flat pattern clothes really well.
Aimee: No that's an actual skill. Keep trying.
Me: I can convince people I'm paying attention to them even when I'm not.
Aimee: That's not a life skill. That's just bitchy.

Anyway, after repeated iterations I determined that a "life skill" was something that's useful (preferably not just to yourself) and takes some talent, but isn't actually that useful. Like, you're never going to make money on it.

So internet: What's your life skill? I'm still working on mine...
