4 month sleepies

Baby had her shots yesterday and has been extra sleepy ever since. For those keeping track at home she was 70% on weight, 92% on height. Big girl!

Skiing videos

Here's a few videos from the ski trip. First, me (and Chris) skiing backwards. He's such a showoff.

Next, me skiing forwards with Cece following up behind.

Overall I'm pleased with how much better I've gotten at skiing since I started. I guess I shouldn't be shocked since I've spent a bunch of time on it. At the end of the ski trip I decided it was time for new ski boots and so Chris took me to the store in Boise where he said they do the best fitting. Anyway, the guy measured my feet and tried a bunch of boots on me and told me that he didn't have any boots that would fit me right, so sorry. How often do you go to a store to buy something and they tell you none of theirs will work?

My last remaining grandparent (shown in the center of the couch above) passed away back around February 21. He was celebrated at his funeral as being a "good listener," a characteristic attributed, at least in part, to his living with my grandmother for so long. One of my best memories of him was when we toured the Kennedy Space Center together. They have a mock-up of the room where the Apollo missions were controlled and he could tell us who sat at each of the seats in that room.

Geneva and I went out for the funeral. We had plane tickets to come out and visit that I booked after he broke his hip, but I didn't really realize how serious the surgery would be - he never really recovered from it - and so he never got to meet her. The funeral was both sad and fun, as these things often are. It was fun to get to see all my relatives who live in DC, in addition to the ones who came in especially for the funeral (like my mom, sister, cousins). It was sad to be attending yet another funeral, of course. It's gotten so ridiculous that my family has funeral related inside jokes. ("Don't waste that crab!") I have to say though that while I'm sad about my grandfather, the funeral mostly just made me miss my dad. There was a slideshow at the funeral showing pictures from my grandfather's life, and of course it included tons of photos of my dad and I kept thinking how it was wrong that he wasn't there.

In the middle of all the death thoughts, it was such a joy to have Geneva with me. It's easier to take a funeral with a new baby around. People (such as me) have a focal point for hope and happiness. I got to introduce her to my relatives and they all seemed to really love her. Of course she's a real sweetheart, so it's no surprise. I was pointing out to my uncle that she seems to be working on the Miller toenails (something nasty always seems to happen to our big toenails) and Uncle Jack joked that he should get her some tweezers now (more family inside jokes - this one because Millers like to do "surgery" on themselves).

Anyway, I think that about sums up that trip to DC. Except I learned another truth about life from my mother: Open casket is always a mistake.

Ski sweater

Just to kind of prove I skied in the sweater I made. Skiing is about the only thing it's good for because it's so warm.

Geneva's first ski run!!!

Here we are on the bunny slope at Brundage. Chris wore a baby bjorn under his coat with Geneva in it and I skied backwards in front of him with the camera and filmed. Good thing I learned to ski backwards last winter!

McCall, Idaho

It's a bit of a cop out to put cute pictures of the baby instead of writing what I've been up do. We're currently in McCall, Idaho visiting with grandma and grandpa and going skiing. The ski area near Chris's parents' cabin has a daycare that's slope-side. I ski for a couple of hours, I ski up to the bunny hutch, I feed the baby. Repeat. Pretty nice to be able to get in some skiing with an infant! So far we've skied 4 days and sat out 3 due to tiredness and nasty weather. We're planning to ski again tomorrow and then go back to Boise to visit with some of Chris's relatives. Anyway that's the summary. I have some backlogged blog entries to catch up on, but those will probably wait until next week.

Snow baby

G was really resistant to napping yesterday and only fell asleep when
we took her out for a walk. Doesn't look comfortable to me, but what
do I know?
