Six month milestones

Time for some words.

Geneva had her 6 month check up last week and we learned that she's 70th percentile for head and weight, and 91st for height (go tall girl go!).

She's got two little teeth pretty fully in on the bottom (and has for a couple of weeks now?) and now I'm convinced that she's about to get a top one. It's about time, she's got a little swollen feeling spot up there, and she woke up around 8:30 last night absolutely screaming her head off and inconsolable (which is not like her at all). An hour of rocking and some tylenol, one or the other, got her back to sleep.

She had her first week of daycare last week. It was only really partial days since my mom is in town and neither of us can stand to go without seeing her for that long. I drop the baby off in the morning then at some point my mom bikes over to my work and we go get G at daycare. G seems to love daycare, by the way. They sit her on the floor (mostly unassisted - that pretty much happened this week) with a giant bucket of toys in front of her and she picks one out, chews on it for a little while, and then grabs a new one. They say she's a really easy baby - almost never cries and she always seems totally mellow when I go to pick her up.

Finally we started feeding her solids on Saturday. Which is a bit of an exaggeration. It's more like we waved a spoon around, she got really messy, and accidentally may have ingested a few particles of rice in the process. It hasn't really improved and frankly it makes me a little nauseous to watch her spit/drool out that much urp-y looking food. I think teaching her about solids is going to be project Daddy for awhile.

Ok, she's crying. Laters.

Swinging with her buddy

My mom took Geneva to the playground yesterday and ran into her buddy
Sinjin! Together they solved a mystery for me... why are there always
4 holes in the baby swings??

Baby's new tricks

This morning I saw our real camera on the counter (as opposed to my phone) and decided I'd take a photo of the closest cute thing I saw. When I saw the photo I realized how much better photos a real camera takes...

Anyway, Geneva has a couple of new tricks. Yesterday she spent most of the day with Sinjin and his nanny, and when I went to pick her up she was pretty much sitting up on her own. Not all the time, and not for a long time, but really it was the first I had seen.

Trick number two started this evening. We've given the baby a bath almost every night of her life, and tonight was the first one where she started splashing! I'll try to post a video soon for everyone to share.

Handmade Sweater

Here's our little chunker enjoying a handknit gift from Jill. She
loves the short sleeves since she takes after her daddy and is hot all
the time!

Esto Perpetua

Chris and I had such a laugh today. Somehow we got to talking about the state motto of Idaho and wondering what it was. He looked it up and told me "Esto Perpetua." I asked, what does that mean? It goes on forever? Then pondered aloud, wow, wouldn't that be fitting. I bet more than one settler on the Oregon trail thought Idaho f*&^ing went on forever. He thought this was hilarious. Even the baby laughed at us heehawing to ourselves. Turns out it means "Let it be perpetual." Guess my Latin is ok.

Tennessee's state motto is Agriculture and Commerce. What kind of a lame ass motto is that? And I just looked up California's and it's "Eureka" (evidently Greek for "I have found it"). As Chris put it, Esto Perpetua sounds better and better.

Baby learned to stand!

She can't pull herself up yet, but she loves to stand holding onto
things!
